Floods are the most common natural disaster in the United States.

Rushing water is extremely powerful. It only takes 6 inches of flood water to knock over an average-sized adult, and only 24 inches of flood water to carry away a car or SUV.

Total flood insurance claims from 2005 to 2014 averaged more than $3.5 billion per year.
